Superheated water at 1180C is used for heating purposes in the centrifugal section. This is going to be a once through operation and requirement is about 1.5% to 2% on cane. Presently steam at 6 bar either from a PRDS or through extraction from double extraction condensing turbine of cogeneration power turbine is transported through a long distance to the boiling house-resulting in heat losses in the line and thus wastage of steam.

The operating thermal energy required to get water heated to 1180C from 1000C (Condensate from 2nd body of the Evaporator) is about 160 KW for a flow of 1 TPH in an Electrical system for the above delta T0C. This is done by installing a requisite rating of Electric Heating Element (s) in a holding pressure tank of an appropriate capacity. The heaters (s) are designed to give a continuous supply of hot water at 1180C. Pressure of this water is in the range of 2 kg/cm2 g. When the consumption of water is stopped or reduced, the heaters provide in banks are cut off and maintain the water temperature is at 1180C.
